Hello to All,
Let me take this opportunity to remind you of our first club meeting of the year this Thursday, September 20. Don’t forget that we will be starting at 6:30 pm from now on. Our guest will be Paul Poling of Mountain State Honey Company. Paul is the past chief state inspector and has an extensive background in beekeeping, currently managing 2000+ hives. He will be speaking on the commercial aspect of the industry, but has agreed to field our questions on all aspects of beekeeping.
I also want to remind you that we will again host the honey competition at Oglebayfest, October 6-7. Entries must consist of 2 – 1# GLASS jars of honey. We will have 1# jars for sale at the meeting Thursday if you need them as well as a brief review on preparing your honey for competition. We will accept entries on Friday afternoon, October 5 at the main tent at Oglebay’s Site 1 from 1:00 to 5:30 pm. No entries will be accepted after 5:30. Judging will occur after 6:00 pm with prizes displayed Saturday and Sunday. All colors of honey will be judged as the same class and we suggest that you refrain from entering extra dark honeys to facilitate judging. A $50 prize will be awarded to the first place entry with $25 for second place and a ribbon for third place. I encourage all to enter for the fun of the competition and as an incentive to improve the quality of your product.
Please make it a point to attend the Thursday meeting for Paul is a resource worth experiencing. Also, please feel free to bring a snack to share. See you there…
